#OperationRenaissance: An Artistic Revolution

Hello Internet Family! How are you all holding up? I’ve been going a little stir crazy with all of this #COVID19 nonsense going on, but I am still trying to create in the midst of it all. It’s easier said than done, but I am trying to persevere and I hope you are too. I KNOW this is going to pass and when it does, I want to make sure I am coming out of the gate swinging haha

That being said, I have seen a lot of my creative friends struggle with finding that spark to making something magical and I have cooked up an idea to help…#OperationRenaissance

Renaissance is a French word that means rebirth. The original renaissance of the 14th-17th century promoted the rediscovery of classical philosophy, literature and art. This era is often branded as a time of war, ignorance, famine and pandemics such as the black death, but it was also an artistic revolution.

We saw this revolution again in the mid 1900 with the Harlem Renaissance; instilling in African Americans across the country a new spirit of self-determination and pride, a new social consciousness, and a new commitment to political activism, all of which would provide a foundation for the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s.

The goal of #OperationRenaissance is to serve as a new spark to inspire creatives to make something the world has yet to see; the greatest art you can imagine. I want this project to foster community and creativity, and I am SO excited to see what you make of it.

Every week, starting TODAY, I will give a prompt for you to create around. It may be a word or phrase. You DO NOT have to use that exact word/phrase in your creation, but it should relate to the original prompt. You’ll have a week to create whatever you would like and then post it on social media using the hashtag: #OperationRenaissance for the world to see! I’ll be going though the hashtag to find and share some of my favorite pieces from you all AND will be sharing the pieces I can to my website.

P.S. Don’t forget to use the hashtag and to share with all of your creative friends! Together, I know we can do something AMAZING. Also…If it was not clear: I’m talking to all of my singers, songwriters, poets, photographers, videographers, artist, graphic designers, and more!  If you do something creative, I WANT TO SEE/HEAR/EXPERIENCE IT!!!
